Lindsay Powell joins as Workforce Strategies Director

Lindsay Powell, who previously served as the assistant chief of staff and policy director to former Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto, will join InnovatePGH as a workforce strategies director later this month. Powell will be tasked with creating a cohesive regional tech training ecosystem that aims to remove barriers of entry in the innovation-centered economy.

I am excited Lindsay chose to join InnovatePGH as the platform to continue expanding her high-impact work in Pittsburgh. Her experience and passion align perfectly with InnovatePGH’s mission to ensure that a growing tech sector in Pittsburgh opens up real opportunity for all Pittsburghers
— Sean Luther, Executive Director

Lindsay’s new role includes a relaunch of InnovatePGH’s ‘University Talent Alliance,” a workforce development program in partnership with the Pittsburgh Council on Higher Education and Jewish Family Community Services, which builds training and career pathways for residents of neighborhoods adjacent to the Pittsburgh Innovation District to jobs at the District’s university anchors. The Talent Alliance is funded in part by the Heinz Endowments.

Lindsay will also accelerate InnovatePGH’s work to build a cohesive tech training ecosystem and unite the various training providers, community advocates, and HR specialists around a unified mission to open up future oriented jobs at all education levels. In this capacity, Lindsay will work closely with leaders from Partner4Work, the Allegheny Conference, the Pittsburgh Tech Council, and Vibrant Pittsburgh through the recently established, ‘Tech Workforce Action Group.’

Lindsay’s position is funded by a multi-year award to InnovatePGH from the Henry L Hillman Foundation. The InnovatePGH staff and board are incredibly grateful to the Hillman Foundation’s continued support and commitment to building an equitable innovation economy in Pittsburgh.
