Oakland Welcomes First Permanent Live Performance Space to Neighborhood in Over Twenty Years.

Post Genre, a team of local musicians and creatives, is excited to announce the opening of ‘Haven a live performance space in the heart of Pittsburgh’s university neighborhood. With support from the Pittsburgh Innovation District, the former Holy Spirit Greek Orthodox Church will be transformed into a permanent live performance space and rehearsal studio set to open in January 2025.

“Haven” is Oakland’s first permanent performance space in over twenty years since the closing of legendary stages such as The Beehive, Clug Laga, Graffiti, The Electric Banana, and The Decade. “Oakland’s creative and live music community is well deserving of a sustainable and permanent home. We are excited to open the Atwood Church as a creative hub for artistic expression.” says Eli Alfieri of Post Genre. The space will host workshops, open-mic nights, local music, pop-up exhibitions, and will be accessible for private and community events. "The Pittsburgh Innovation District is extremely excited to continue our partnership with Post Genre in bringing ‘Haven’ to life,” said Mike Madden, Vice President of InnovatePGH. “This new space marks an important step in honoring Oakland’s cultural legacy. It is perfectly situated to be a welcoming, accessible hub to bring Oakland and its surrounding neighborhoods together."

Post Genre will also operate a daytime smart rehearsal space that will offer a convenient, professional, and affordable environment for musicians to rehearse and create.

Post Genre and the Pittsburgh Innovation District partnership is built upon the success of the sold-out “Genesis” concert series at the church this past spring. The concert series welcomed community members and hosted 9 bands over 3 nights. Thanks to the Oakland community, Post Genre has raised over five thousand dollars through their fundraiser to support the building’s launch.

Official opening dates and inaugural events at “Haven” will be announced in late November.
