Fujitsu Expands in the Pittsburgh Innovation District
Pittsburgh Innovation District welcomes Fujitsu as new tenant with expansion and relocation.
(Pittsburgh, PA) The Pittsburgh Innovation District announced the first tenant for their new Avenu Workspaces location on Atwood Street will be Fujitsu, who recently celebrated their first year in Oakland at the District’s Meyran Ave coworking space. After the successful launch of their North American location, Fujitsu’s new lease will nearly triple the size of their presence in the Pittsburgh Innovation District, with plans to grow their team in the coming months.
Fujitsu established their presence in the Innovation District last year after announcing a research collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University’s Mobility Data Analytics Center (MAC) and Computational Behavior Lab. The collaboration focuses on two projects – one on developing ‘Social Digital Twin’ technology to evaluate the effectiveness of measures designed to dynamically estimate and control traffic flow and another modeling and forecasting the behavior of pedestrians in urban environments. "We are excited to announce that our team will be relocating to the impressive new office space," shared Koichiro Niinuma, Research Director of Fujitsu Research of America. "This move represents an exciting chapter for us, as we embrace a fresh environment that will inspire creativity, collaboration, and continued growth."
Fujitsu’s collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University is an example of CMU’s research leading to meaningful economic impact in the city. CMU’s Assistant Vice President for Business Engagement, Amy Klinke, highlights Fujitsu’s expansion as part of a growing effort to integrate research partners into the city as a whole.
Fujitsu’s expansion is made possible by the parallel expansion of Avenu Workspace, whose new location in the Pittsburgh Innovation District is part of a larger strategy to weave on-campus innovation with off-campus real estate and networking assets. Sean Luther, President and CEO of InnovatePGH, which owns Avenu Workspaces, credits Oakland’s amenities, resources, and proximity to institutions for Fujitsu’s expansion.
