Overview
The Marketing & Communications Manager will support Pittsburgh Innovation District & Oakland Business Improvement District (OBID)’s marketing and communications efforts, with a focus on promoting the Oakland neighborhood via a shared communications strategy. This role is responsible for managing digital platforms, creating engaging content, and supporting marketing automation processes to advance the organizations goals. The Communications Manager will report to the InnovatePGH Communications Director and work collaboratively with both organizations, community partners, and stakeholders to enhance visibility, promote events and programs, and strengthen engagement within Oakland.
The ideal candidate will be willing to have fun and engage in the community, have strong writing and content creation skills, proficiency in digital marketing tools, and a proactive approach to collaboration. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by amplifying the story of Pittsburgh’s innovation ecosystem, supporting Oakland’s businesses, and fostering community connections.
Responsibilities
Plan and execute digital campaigns to promote events, share program updates, and amplify partner initiatives, while maintaining a coordinated content calendar for newsletters, social media, and blog updates.
Create engaging content for newsletters, blog posts, social media, and marketing materials, identifying timely and relevant stories to elevate organizational goals.
Manage digital platforms, including websites, social media accounts, and e-newsletters, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with branding and organizational objectives.
Monitor digital channels to engage with audiences, respond to inquiries, and ensure a consistent voice and tone across platforms.
Support the use of marketing automation software by maintaining clean and accurate data, building and segmenting contact lists, and tracking campaign performance.
Perform basic design tasks, such as creating social media graphics, event flyers, and email headers, using tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
Collaborate with community organizations, local media, content creators, and stakeholders to enhance visibility for Oakland’s events and programs.
Work with partners to identify and amplify community engagement opportunities aligned with organizational goals.
Assist with public relations efforts, special initiatives, and grant reporting as needed.
Provide communications support for participation in regional conferences, events, and collaborations. General Information
Education, Skills + Personal Attributes
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Relevant experience in communications, digital marketing, or public relations.
Familiarity with marketing automation software for data management, list segmentation, and campaign tracking.
Proficiency with basic design tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator) or Canva, for creating branded digital and print materials.
Experience with website content management systems, particularly Squarespace and WordPress, for performing basic updates and adjustments.
Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to create engaging content for diverse audiences and platforms.
Demonstrated ability to analyze digital metrics and adapt strategies based on performance data.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Effective collaborator with the ability to work closely with team members, community partners, and stakeholders.
Proactive problem solver with a strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality work.
Passion for Pittsburgh, particularly Oakland.
General Information
This position will be based at InnovatePGH’s offices at Avenu Workspaces; three days in office required. Some local travel is required.
A flexible schedule, including some evening hours, is required.
Salary: $52-57K with competitive benefits.
