Associate Director of Tech-Training Initiatives

In 2025, InnovatePGH and Pitt Cyber launched an initiative to build a regional Cyber Hub in partnership with the Pittsburgh Technology Council (PTC), and Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU). The Cyber Hub will address fragmentation within the ecosystem and provide key connection points to strengthen and unify efforts across sectors. The initiative will include a digital hub and strategies to align training curricula with industry needs, reduce duplication, and streamline the region's ecosystem. The digital hub will centralize training, job postings, events, and workforce data, while the engagement strategy will focus on (1) outreach to K-12, higher education, and non-traditional learners to reduce barriers for diverse communities, and (2) convening industry, academia, and workforce programs to foster alignment.
InnovatePGH seeks an Associate Director to advance the organization's workforce development goals and build/implement the Cyber Hub program for Southwestern Pennsylvania in collaboration with partners
Overview
The Associate Director will serve as the point-of-contact for tech-training related activity at InnovatePGH and as the project manager and primary planner to develop and implement a regional Cyber Hub. The Associate Director will also develop a Cyber Hub sustainability plan and fundraising strategy to financially support this project past the grant period. The Associate Director reports to the Ecosystem Director.
Responsibilities
Cyber Hub Development and Implementation
• Develop and monitor internal and cross-organization workplans to define and implement the Cyber Hub initiative
• Lead day-to-day operations and overall implementation of the regional Cyber Hub initiative
• Coordinate InnovatePGH resource allocation in support of the Cyber Hub development
• Collaborate with website development partners to develop the digital Cyber Hub platform and ensure the website remains up to date
• Develop a stakeholder engagement strategy and facilitate regular stakeholder convenings to align cybersecurity education, training, and hiring needs
• Work with Pitt Cyber, PTC, and AIU to build and maintain partnerships with K-12, postsecondary institutions, community-based organizations, training providers, and employers
• Support the creation and execution of a regional engagement strategy to expand cybersecurity career awareness and training access, especially among underrepresented groups
• Lead data collection, analysis, and reporting to monitor progress toward outputs and outcomes
• Develop marketing outreach, and communication strategies in collaboration with marketing and communications support to promote the Cyber Hub
• Manage relationships with technology vendors, platform developers, and consultants as needed to support the project • Develop a Cyber Hub sustainability plan and fundraise accordingly
• Draft progress reports, contribute to grant reporting and present updates to funders
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President
Economic Opportunity Programing
• Represent the InnovatePGH within the local workforce development and tech-training ecosystem
• As applicable, support workforce development and STEM engagement programming in the Pittsburgh Innovation District/Oakland:
o Identify and implement new strategies to leverage the Innovation District platform to engage residents of Oakland and adjacent neighborhoods
o Support the Innovation District’s implementation of the “Oakland Plan” with specific priority around access to careers, growing job opportunities in Oakland, engaging minority and immigrant businesses, and supporting Hispanic businesses
o Explore expanded relationships between the Innovation District/District Anchors and Pittsburgh Public School’s SciTech Academy
• Assist with the Innovation District Skills Alliance
• Support InnovatePGH’s larger “Expanded Pathways to Entrepreneurship” efforts and identify ways to integrate disparate programs into a high-impact portfolio of work
• Assist with grant applications and reports as needed
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Ecosystem Director and President
Experience, Skills + Personal Attributes
A successful candidate brings a positive attitude, keen interest in cybersecurity, and a willingness to make an immediate impact within a nimble, highly motivated team.
• A bachelor's degree or 4 years of equivalent experience in program development or cybersecurity is accepted (a secondary degree – associate or bachelor's degree – is not required)
• Demonstrated experience in economic development, workforce programming, and cybersecurity preferred • Proven ability to manage multi-stakeholder initiatives and build effective cross-sector partnerships
• Familiarity with cybersecurity education, workforce training systems, and/or broader tech sector trends • Strong understanding of equitable community engagement practices
• Experience convening and leading stakeholder engagement or working group meetings • Outgoing and willing to meet new people and build strong personal connections
• Robust understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the tech/innovation economy as a driver of 21st century economic opportunity
• Experience fundraising and securing financial support for projects preferred
• Excellent executive presence; ability to work under pressure and face the challenges of a high-profile initiative with multiple priorities
• Effective communicator with exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills
• High level of self-motivation with drive to take initiative; including willingness to develop independent goals and tasks
• Highly organized and proactive with the ability to meet deadlines; capable of creating and keeping a dynamic schedule
• Passion for Pittsburgh
General Information
• This position will be based at InnovatePGH’s offices in the Pittsburgh Innovation District with a flex-work pattern available. Local travel is required.
• A flexible schedule, including some evening hours, is required
• Salary: $78,000-$82,000 (commensurate with experience)
• The position is supported by a one-year grant; InnovatePGH intends to extend the Cyber Hub project and the larger work of the Associate Director pending additional fundraising
